The Sign of Four
by
Arthur Conan Doyle
My first Sherlock Holmes book is narrated through Dr John Watson's eyes, Arthur Conan Doyle shows a startling ability of the description of all his characters especially the protagonist, he makes them seems really realistic and his expressions encompass very tiny details about the characters which help the reader to imagine them as if they were in front of him. I like Dr Watson's personality, he is kind, loyal and a pure lover.
Miss Mary Morstan headed Sherlock Holmes' home to ask his help after the missing of her father few years ago, she received a strange letter from an anonymous person requesting her to meet him at The Lyceum Theatre to reveal the mysterious disappearance of her father. They met the son of Major Sholto her unique father's friend, he told them about the story of those two friends and the hidden Great Agra Treasure which the half of it belonged to Miss Morston, as they reached Major Sholto's house they discovered the dead boy of his second son who shared the secret of the treasure with his brother.
This murder was weird, complicated and really dangerous to catch the culprits because they were intelligent and mentally strong enough to escape without leaving any sign leading to them, but merely footprints paved the way to the brilliant detective, Sherlock Holmes to catch them.
It was an amusing story, I had two different feelings while reading it; I was impatient to figure out the real criminal otherwise I wouldn't reach the end of the book, I liked the meaningful message in the end and Sherlock Holmes' wisdom.
